Professional Certificate in Marketing
 
The Professional Certificate in Marketing is for those in junior marketing positions or aspiring to pursue a career in marketing.It helps those who are engaged in support roles of marketing.
 
 
Subject Reference
 
Marketing Fundamentals
The aim of this module is to develop a basic knowledge and understanding of marketing, marketing processes and the marketing mix. No prior knowledge or experience in marketing is expected for those entering the Certificate Stage and Marketing Fundamentals forms the foundation of the Certificate Stage. It is essential that a student takes this module as it forms the core when attempting other modules in the Certificate Stage.
 
Customer Communication
The Customer Communication module provides entry level skills and application in the development and use of communications. It provides a working knowledge of customers’ buying behaviour and the application of communication techniques to influence the purchase. No prior experience in marketing or communication is required except that you would have to be conversant with the content of the Marketing Fundamentals module.
 
Marketing Environment
The aim of this module is to help the student grasp the importance of the marketing environment, which affects business decisions. In assessing the environment, it is important to understand the importance of information and its impact on the decisions made in the organisation’s planning process.
 
Marketing in Practice - (Integrative project)
The application of marketing in context is the core of this module and as such you will be expected to be conversant with the content of the other three modules. It forms the summative assessment of the Professional Certificate in Marketing.
 
Synergy Recommends
We recommend that in the event you decide to attempt two of the four modules to opt for Marketing fundamentals and Customer Communication or Marketing environment. Lectures for the MIP module commences once a minimum of 40% has been completed in MF, CC and ME, to ensure that students have a better grasp of the practical application of the theory and concepts learnt in these modules.
 
Finance and Statistics for Marketing (FSM)
This extra module, designed by Synergy, is to ensure that students are made aware of the importance of finance and statistics in marketing. The syllabus revisions in the Postgraduate Diploma Level have given emphasis to the importance of this area in marketing. The objective behind designing this module is to ensure that the Students of Synergy are better prepared to face the final stage of CIM. Furthermore it helps those in junior marketing positions to be more prudent when making decisions.
 
 
Entry criteria
   

You must meet one or more of the following criteria:

   
Age 18 or over with two Advanced levels or equivalent
Age 19 or over with a minimum of one year's full time work experience in marketing
CIM Introductory Certificate in Marketing (formerly Foundation Certificate in Marketing)
NVQ or SVQ Level 2 in Marketing (UK)
NVQ or SVQ Level 3 in any other subject (UK)

Professional Diploma in Marketing
 
This level of qualification is for marketers concerned with managing the marketing process at an operational level. It is also for those looking to build on the knowledge gained at Certificate Level with a future marketing management role in mind.
 
 
Subject Reference
 
Marketing Research and Information
This module aims at developing the ability of the student to manage customer information, research projects and marketing information. It also provides the skill and knowledge to plan/undertake market research and present results.
 
Marketing Planning
This module provides knowledge and understanding in the creation and use of operational marketing plans. It also provides an understanding of the different contexts in which marketing and planning are carried out. It develops the capability of the student to construct plans.
 
Marketing Communications
This module provides the skill and knowledge to manage communications and brand support activities. It explains the concepts and practice of promotional activities.
 
Marketing Management in Practice - (Integrative project)
It provides the student with the knowledge and skills to plan, develop and implement marketing plans at an operational level. It also provides knowledge and skills to work within teams and manage teams. It is the integrating unit, which combines the knowledge of the other three modules. It forms the summative assessment of the Professional Diploma in Marketing.
 
Synergy Recommends
We recommend that in the event you decide to attempt two of the four modules, you should opt for Marketing Planning and Marketing Communications or Marketing Research & Information.

Any Bachelor or Masters degree (from a provider which is formally recognised by the appropriate official body and by CIM)
CIM Certificate in Marketing/CIM Certificate in Marketing Management Practice/CIM Professional Certificate in Marketing/CAM Diploma in Marketing Communications
EdExcel (BTEC) Higher National Certificate/Diploma in any subject (UK only)
NVQ or SVQ Level 3 in Marketing (UK only)

Professional Postgraduate Diploma in Marketing
 
For those with sufficient knowledge/experience in marketing, or past finalists of other Professional Bodies recognised by CIM as being eligible for exemptions from the preceding levels. It is also for students who have completed the Professional Diploma in Marketing and aspire to reach a strategic level in marketing management.
 
 
Subject Reference
 
Analysis & Evaluation
Provides the student with knowledge and skills, to undertake strategic analysis and evaluation of the organisation’s current situation.
 
Strategic Marketing Decisions
This module focuses on competitive strategy from a global perspective and examines how competitive advantage could be exploited. It also focuses on how the organisation should compete, and highlights the significance of brands, alliances and relationships.
 
Managing Marketing Performance
Provides knowledge and skills required to successfully implement a customer oriented and competitive strategy. It helps understand the need for change and managing and integrating the marketing function.
 
Strategic Marketing in Practice (Case Study)
This builds on the knowledge gained in the preceding modules and assesses the student’s competence in strategic marketing. The familiarity with contemporary issues in the business world is essential when attempting this module.
 
Synergy Recommends
The demands of this level require the allocation of a reasonable amount of time for research and knowledge development. Synergy’s learning environment facilitates knowledge development through the innovative style of delivery and additional forums which enhance knowledge. Attempting the SMIP (Case Study) should therefore be with the knowledge of the other modules and the ability to commit time towards Synergy’s style of learning. Synergy’s innovative approach to the Case Study includes preparatory sessions and an intensive residential workshop with an international dimension brought in by a guest lecturer from the UK. The results achieved bear testimony to the success of this approach.

CIM Professional Diploma in Marketing/CIM Advanced Certificate in Marketing/CIM Advanced Certificate in Marketing Management Practice/CIM Diploma in Tourism Marketing
Any undergraduate or postgraduate degree with significant marketing content (from a provider which is formally recognized by the appropriate official body and by CIM) OR a non-marketing degree plus 3 years' marketing management experience
6 years' marketing management experience, 3 of which should be at a senior level
